Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca's brutal management of prisoners under his supervision represents yet another black eye for law enforcement. It is of great harm to society when public officials such as Sheriff Baca become part of the problem.
Instead of being part of the solution, Sheriff Baca, become the problem, did if not the honorable thing, at least the prudent thing in stepping down from his position.
Yet to be answered is, was this prison abuse simply a one-man operation? Is Sheriff Baca's resignation the end of this abuse or will it continue as before except for a bureaucratic shuffling of papers?
